I International Symposium Pathophysiology in Cardiometabolic Diseases
Valencia, Spain 25-26 June 2026
Cardiometabolic disease (CMD) is a clinical syndrome driven by genetic factors (heredity), environmental influences, and behavioral components, together with key metabolic abnormalities such as obesity, hyperglycaemia, and features of the metabolic syndrome. CMD encompasses conditions including hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, coronary heart disease, stroke, and other related disorders. Its incidence rises progressively with age and represents a leading cause of mortality and global disease burden. Poor dietary habits, physical inactivity, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption are major contributors to the increasing prevalence of CMD. Despite its impact, the pathogenesis, risk stratification, and optimal treatment strategies for CMD remain incompletely understood. Among emerging therapeutic approaches, improving cardiac metabolism and energy supply is considered one of the most promising strategies.
Mitochondrial dysfunction has emerged as a central mechanism in the development of CMD, with significant implications for public health. In conditions such as obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, periodontal disease, and polycystic ovary syndrome, mitochondrial impairment is closely associated with oxidative stress, chronic low-grade inflammation, and heightened cardiovascular risk.
The International Symposium on Pathophysiology of Cardiometabolic Diseases aims to bring together basic researchers and clinical experts in the field to promote collaboration and deepen our understanding of these disorders. The event focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying CMD, with the goal of identifying novel therapeutic strategies and pharmacological targets that may alleviate the burden of CMD for millions of patients worldwide. This edition offers a unique opportunity to interact with leading researchers who are advancing innovative anti-CMD therapies and developing new diagnostic tools that promise to transform patient care. We warmly invite all those interested in CMD to join us on 25–26 June 2026 in Valencia to continue exploring this increasingly important topic.
